THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE
A Bowen session is probably unlike any therapy you’ve experienced before. The therapist makes gentle moves with the fingers through the client’s light clothing. The moves are made over tendons and ligaments which ‘resets’ the body. It’s a very relaxing but effective therapy and some people fall asleep during the session. Short breaks of two or three minutes are usually taken between the moves, to allow the body to process the moves.
Some clients have insights into emotional issues that they have during the session, or the insights seem to bubble up over the week offering a different perspective on whatever is troubling them.
Some may argue that the subtle moves of Bowen help release some cellular memory. Here are two interesting books if you would like to know more about the body’s ability to store trauma –
‘The Body Keeps the Score’ Bessel van der Kolk
‘When the Body Says No – the cost of hidden stress’ by Gabor Maté.
If you would like to experience this therapy, then I am a qualified Bowen Therapist and could offer this as a separate appointment.
